What was it like to be spotted by the judges as ‘One to Watch’ award for 2018?
It's always great to have anyone show interest in your work, but to be recognised by a panel of judges is a huge honour and it's a great relief to know I'm heading in the right direction.
How important is colour in your work and why?
Colour is very important in my work, a change in colour can change the whole mood of an animation. It's also useful in storytelling to show the differences between different characters and settings.
What or who inspires you?
Some definite inspirations for this project where the work of Felix Colgrave, Studio Ghibli, the series 'Over The Garden Wall' and even 'Peppa Pig'. I took a lot of inspiration for the colours from the illustrations of Ivan Bilibin.
What gets you out of bed in the morning?
If I'm working on something really challenging with new problems to solve each day, I'll usually be working on a solution in my head all night and will be out of bed bright and early to put it into practice and see if it works.
What would you like to achieve in the next year?
I really have no idea where to go from here. I'm going to try freelancing for a while, but will probably join an animation studio, preferably somewhere sunny.
Tell us about someone who really made a difference to your creative journey in the past few years. Who are they and what did they do/say?
I really couldn't mention just one person, my tutors and the friends I've made on my course have all been supper supportive, and of course my parents. I'm very grateful to be surrounded by awesome people.
What is your favourite colour?
If I had to pick one colour, I'd say a deep teal. But I'd like to give Orange an honourable mention.
