For emerging designer-maker Zobiya Asif, design is a way to celebrate identity, craftsmanship and the joy of coming together.

Drawing upon her dual British-Pakistani heritage, Zobiya creates bold, playful work with a powerful sense of purpose. Her latest project centres around a handcrafted seat inspired by the traditional game of Ludo, transforming a familiar cultural reference into an engaging piece designed to encourage interaction and connection.

Being selected by the judges as one of CIDA’s Ones to Watch has given Zobiya renewed confidence in her creative direction.

Tell us about your project.

My project celebrates togetherness, craftsmanship and my dual heritage as a British-Pakistani designer. My seat is inspired by the traditional game of Ludo and is designed to bring people together through playfulness and shared experience.

What role does colour play in your work?

Colour is one of the most important elements of my work. The palette celebrates the traditional colours of Pakistani Ludo, while the bold tones invite people to interact with the piece and allow it to stand out as a statement in its own right.

Where do you hope to be in three years?

My dream is to become an experienced craftsperson, specialising in woodworking or leatherwork. I hope to establish myself within the industry, continue developing my skills and learn as much as I can about these traditional crafts.

Finally, what is your favourite colour?

Any shade of green!
